In addition their research project, Research Engineers (REs) are able to access a range of training and development activities which begins with a shared induction period followed by a structured series of events for including conferences, shared residential training modules, networking and participation in RCNDE events. The multi-university operation means that in addition to the CDT cohort experience, the REs benefit from a parallel cohort experience in their own universities plus networking with a large number of researchers in the RCNDE community.
Technical course modules include:
- The Engineering Context of NDE
- Acoustics and Ultrasonics
- Ultrasonic transduction
- Electromagnetic methods
- Optical and Thermal Methods
- Instrumentation and signal processing
- Finite Element Analysis
- Fracture Mechanics and Materials
- NDE of composites
- Guided wave ultrasonics
Specialist modules are also available and REs undertake a range of professional development training modules over the period of their degree.
The CDT runs an annual conference attended by REs from all cohorts and REs are expected to attend other UK and international conferences.
